Update 1:09 p.m.: The Saudi national is being treated as a witness to the bombings, not as a suspect, according to the Washington Post.

The roommate of the Saudi national questioned in connection with the twin bombings at the Boston Marathon described him as a devout Muslim who was unlikely to be behind the attack.

“I don’t think he could do that,” the roommate, who did not give his name, told the Boston Globe.

The unnamed Saudi national’s apartment was searched Monday night by the FBI. He was injured in the attacks Monday afternoon near the finish line of the Boston Marathon and is being treated at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, according to the Globe.

He was questioned in connection with the bombings but was not charged with a crime, an unnamed official told the paper.

The bombings killed at least three people and injured more than 170 others, including 17 critically injured.

The Saudi national’s roommate told the Globe that he is a 20-year-old from Medina who loves soccer and is a devout Muslim.

FBI and police showed up Monday night up at his apartment in the Boston suburb of Revere, Mass., and the roommate said authorities told him to step out of the dwelling.

At a Tuesday morning FBI news conference, authorities said they did not have any suspects in the Boston bombings.

Rick DesLauriers, acting special agent in charge for the FBI in Boston, said the agency was going through “voluminous tips” in the 18 hours since the incidents.
