U.S. President Barack Obama send his greetings in Hebrew to people who practice the Jewish faith during the celebration of Rosh Hashanah which begins Friday at sundown.

L'shana tova, tikatevu, Obama said in Hebrew. May you have a good year, and may you be inscribed for blessings in the book of life, he added.

In the celebration of the Jewish new year, Obama called for the healing of old divisions, the search for new understandings and a better world for our children and grandchildren.
