While the producers of the Lifetime movie, Liz and Dick, starring Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor think she is perfect for the role, there is one person who doesn't - Rosie O'Donnell.

I feel very sorry for her, O'Donnell said of Lohan. I think she needs a lot of help. She needs a lot of time away.

Lohan was confirmed yesterday to be playing the lead role in the Lifetime movie focusing on Elizabeth Taylor's love affair with Richard Burton. The executive producers of the movie Liz and Dick and executives at Lifetime said they are thrilled to have Lohan play Taylor; O'Donnell just doesn't think she is ready for it.

We truly feel that Lindsay Lohan is perfect for Elizabeth Taylor for our movie. I think Lindsay-who is very gifted-deserved another chance, executive producer LarryThompson said. We never, of three pages of 'what if's' in the negotiation, there never was 'what if she can't act.' We know she can act.

We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor, Lifetime executive vp programming Rob Sharenow said. She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.

She's had a lot of trouble doing every single movie, including [Saturday Night Live], O'Donnell said. She was out and not at rehearsal and I think she's not in a place to work. The last thing she did good she was 16! I don't think she's right for the role, and I don't think she's capable at this point of doing what's needed to portray that character. I think the interest level in her has waned significantly.

O' Donnell made the comments on the Today show this morning. It was the first time O'Donnell has been on television since her talk show on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network was cancelled. Lohan has commented on O'Donnell's remarks.

I think Rosie should focus on her own career and stop worrying about everyone else's, Lohan's publicist told E! News.

Whatever O'Donnell's opinion on Lohan playing Taylor is, Lohan is excited about the new role.

I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor, Lohan said in a statement. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.
