Ottawa is the start of a 12-day visit to North America which will take in some of the more remote areas of the country such as Prince Edward Island, Yellowknife and Calgary. Reuters

The media is abuzz with royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton's visit to North America, and it is following every step of their trip, not to mention keeping an eye on Kate's wardrobe.

A throng of fans greeted the couple on Thursday upon their arrival in Ottawa, Canada. The royal couple plans to stay 9 days in Canada, past U.S. Independence Day on July 4, and land in California on July 8.

Upon their arrival in Los Angeles, which will be their only stop in the United States, the couple will be greeted by Governor Jerry Brown and his wife Anne. Together they will attend a reception hosted by the UK Consul-General Dame Barbara Hay at her L.A.-based home.

On July 9, Prince William will play a charity polo match in Santa Barbara to benefit the American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

In the evening is a sold-out dinner and reception hosted by the British Academy of Film & Television, through which the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will help British actors make connections in Hollywood.

The U.S. tour will end on July 10, after a stop at an Inner-City Arts school and job fair for veterans at Sony Studios.
