France crawled into the quarter-finals even though they suffered a huge upset against Tonga in the Rugby World Cup 2011.

Although France lead 6-3 lead after two penalties from Dimitri Yachvili, Tonga produced an inspirational performance and surged forward when Sukanaivalu Hufanga crossed a try and Kurt Morath converted it.

Morath's penalty then made it 13-6 while Yachvili reduced the deficit with his third penalty in the second half.

Morath struck two more but Vincent Clerc's late try earned France a bonus point with which they progressed.

Their margin of defeat could have been much bigger had Morath not missed three second-half penalties and a drop-goal. It was a deserved victory for Tonga as they dominated the match and it will be savoured for a long time to come.
