Russell Brand might be best known as the notorious lothario from “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” but the British comedian is opening up about his short-lived marriage to Katy Perry, saying he never cheated on her.

"I tried it and I loved it. I really think she’s a lovely beautiful person," he said in the June issue of Esquire UK. "It’s just hard isn’t it? She’s got a lot of options, I’ve got a lot of options, so you’ve got to really, really want it.”

Though he had plenty of opportunities to hook up with other women while he was legally married to the “Wide Awake” singer, he maintained he was faithful throughout their marriage.

"When I'm in a relationship I'm diligently monogamous and stick to the principles agreed on within that relationship. You've got to, I think,” MTV News reported the “Get Him to Greek” star as saying to the mag.

He continued: "But it's going to be hard if I go into a monogamous relationship. I live a life where I have a lot of freedom, so if I meet someone and I go, 'Right let's be monogamous', that's a f--king change

Brand told the magazine temptation wasn’t the only thing that lead to their failed marriage: “Some of it’s the fame, but I think getting married is … you’ve got a whole other person that you’ve got to make as important as you!”

The two were married in India in October of 2010. Fourteen months later, however, the comedian filed for divorce in June 2011.

Perry has since moved on from her ex-husband, indulging in a tumultuous relationship with celebrity womanizer John Mayer. The couple have called it quits numerous times, but the latest is that they’ve rekindled their romance.

"They are just hanging out," a source told Eonline.com after Mayer was spotted at the pop star’s Memorial Day Party. "They are not putting a label on it."
