YEKATERINBURG, Russia, Dec 18 - Russian regional telecom operator VolgaTelecom (NNSI.MM) reported on Friday a net profit of 2.8 billion roubles ($92 million) for the nine-month period through end-September.

The company, which expects full-year 2009 net profit to rise 11.5 percent to 3.3 billion roubles, did not give the year-ago comparisons as this is the first time it has reported nine-month results to International Financial Reporting Standards.

For January-June, VolgaTelecom had reported a 7.1 percent increase in earnings to 1.85 billion roubles, while revenue rose 2.2 percent to 16.1 billion roubles.

Nine-month sales at VolgaTelecom, which operates in the Volga region and is controlled by state-run telecoms holding company Svyazinvest, totalled 24.3 billion roubles.

Earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) amounted to 10.7 billion roubles, the company said in a statement.

Rival UralSvyazInform, operating in the Ural Mountains area, reported on Friday a nine-month net profit of 2.4 billion roubles.
