Former Kenyan cabinet minister William Ruto said on Monday he would run for president despite a ruling by the International Criminal Court that it would try him for crimes against humanity during post-election violence in 2007/8.

This is to confirm I am firmly in the race. Let us meet at the ballot, Ruto told reporters at a news conference after the war crimes court released the judgement in The Hague.

Kenyan media reported that Ruto, a former higher education minister, would appeal the ruling.
