Ryan Lochte, already famous for his prowess as a champion swimmer, has become one of the most recognizable faces in America — some might even say one of the most notorious.

He’s a 12-time Olympic medalist known for working hard and sometimes playing even harder.

This week Lochte has been involved in a major scandal, dubbed #LochteGate by Twitter.

Fresh from their victories in the Olympic pool, Lochte and a few teammates claimed to have been robbed while out on the town in Rio Saturday night. But later evidence raised questions about whether the incident might have played out very differently from the way Lochte portrayed it.

It isn’t the first time Lochte’s name has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

According to RadarOnline.com, the athlete was previously busted for urinating in public and for disorderly conduct.

Radar claims that in March 2010, the gold medalist was charged with disorderly conduct after getting into a fight. The case was eventually dismissed on Aug. 3, 2010, after Lochte agreed to comply with the conditions set forth in a four-month deferred prosecution deal.

Five years earlier, Lochte was caught drunkenly peeing in public by a police officer. He was off the hook after he completed a three-month deferred prosecution deal.

He's not one to shy away from the limelight. After the London Olympics in 2012, he took a break from the pool to star in a short-lived reality TV show named “What Would Ryan Lochte Do” and guest-starred in episodes of “30 Rock” and “90210.”
