Ryan O'Neal pleaded guilty on Friday to a felony charge of drug possession for his September arrest and agreed to enter an 18-month drug deferment program.

If O'Neal successfully completes the program the case against him will be dismissed.

Ryan was anxious to move on with his life with privacy and dignity and that's what we're trying to do here today, his lawyer Mark Werksman told People magazine.

His son Redmond was arrested together with him in September following a routine probation sweep which discovered methamphetamines. Redmond was present at the hearing today although his pending case was postponed until February 20.
