S. Africa Non-farm Employment Drops In Q1

RTTNews - Tuesday, the Statistics South Africa announced that the formal non-agricultural business sector employment dropped 2.1% or 179,000 to 8.33 million in the first quarter, compared to the 8.51 million in the previous quarter. A year earlier, the number of employed was 8.41 million persons.

Year-on-year, non-farm employment declined 1% in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, the gross earnings paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector decreased 5.5% to ZAR 258.86 billion in the first quarter, compared to the ZAR 273.96 billion in the previous quarter.
