Wednesday, a report from South Korea's National Statistical Office showed that the jobless rate climbed to 4% in March from 3.9% in February. The number of unemployed increased to 952,000 from 924,000 in the previous month.

At the same time, the number of employed persons grew to 23.1 million from 22.7 million in the preceding month.

In March, there were 24.1 million economically active persons, up from 23.6 million in February. The participation rate rose to 60.2% from 59.3%.
