Consumer prices in South Africa climbed 8.5% year-on-year in March, slowing from an 8.6% increase in the preceding month, the Statistics South Africa said Wednesday. Economists expected prices to be up 8.4%.

Month-on-month, consumer prices rose 1.3% in March, faster than a 1.2% rise in February. Economists expected consumer prices to increase only 1.2%.
