RTTNews - Tuesday, the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa or NAAMSA said in a report that the new vehicle sales decreased 34.7% year-over-year in May, after falling 43.1% in April.

New vehicle sales declined by 13,697 units to 25,819 units in May, compared to the 39,516 units sold in the previous year.

In May, new car sales dropped 27.2% year-on-year to 16,505 units compared to the 22,675 new cars sold last year. New light commercial vehicles, bakkies and minibuses sales declined 43.5% to 7,905 units compared to 13,979 units in the previous year.

Meanwhile, vehicle export sales declined 41.3% to 13,612 vehicles in May.

For the January to May period, new vehicle sales dipped 35.8% to 157,141 units compared to the 244,670 vehicles sold during the same period of the preceding year.
