South African blue-chip stocks booked their highest close in more than 2-1/2 years on Monday, helped by a rise in resource-related companies such as Kumba Iron Ore.

The Top-40 index of blue chips rose 0.37 percent to 29,922.75, its highest finish since May 2008.

The broader All-Share index rose 0.4 percent to 33,094.06, also its highest finish since May 2008. During the session the All-Share briefly touched a record high.
