Two sneak peeks from this week’s Season 1, episode 3 of “Salvation” have been released.

In the first sneak peek, Liam (Charlie Rowe) asks Darius (Santiago Cabrera) what Jillian (Jacqueline Byers) is doing at Tanz Industries.

“I thought you’d be happy,” the tech billionaire tells the MIT grad student.

While Liam says that he is indeed glad to be reunited with Jillian, he admits that her presence at his workplace distracts him from building the EM Drive.

“A distraction, really?” Darius replies. “Because I thought it’s more a distraction when you are taking detours to her bookstore to catch a loving glimpse of her through a window. I need your head in the game. That means I want everything you care about under one roof, mine.”

After Darius tells Liam to go back to work, another Tanz Industries employee informs Darius that Grace (Jennifer Finnigan) has arrived in the building.

The second sneak peek reveals the reason behind Grace’s visit. Apparently, the Pentagon press secretary has to meet with Darius to tell him that he only has six days to deliver a “proof of concept” to the government or the Pentagon will shut his plan down and pursue a riskier way to stop the asteroid from colliding with Earth.

As expected, Darius is upset with the news. “In six days I can give you smashed metal. In 60 days I can save the planet,” Darius tells Grace.

When Darius rudely reminds Grace that it’s her job to find a way to buy them more time, Grace replies, “Excuse me, I’ve [already] done what you asked. I got you Uranium which could still come back to haunt me.”

“That’s behind us. This is in front of us,” Darius says. “Grace, if the IO Probe hits that asteroid, life as we know it is over.”

As revealed in Season 1, episode 2, the IO Probe is a NASA spacecraft currently orbiting Jupiter. Dr. Strauss of Pentagon’s planetary defense team said that the government’s alternative plan to prevent the asteroid from hitting Earth would be to redirect the IO Probe from Jupiter’s orbit and propel it into the asteroid. He said that the impact could alter the asteroid’s trajectory just enough for it to miss Earth.

Darius, however, had issues with it, noting that the high velocity kinetic impact that would result from the collision of the IO Probe and the asteroid could actually smash the asteroid into several pieces, turning “one problem into ten.” Darius then revealed that he can build a working EM drive that could launch the gravity tractor up to asteroid in time to divert it off its path. But could Darius and his team meet the government’s deadline?

“Salvation” Season 1, episode 3, titled “Truth or Darius,” airs on Wednesday, July 26 at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS. Watch the sneak peeks below:
