While Samsung (KRX:005935) is widely expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 3, the next-generation version of its “phablet” device, on Sept. 4 in Berlin, a new report out of Korea has claimed that the company might have opted for Qualcomm’s (NASDAQ:QCOM) Snapdragon 800 chip as the main processor to power the Note 3 for now.

According to Korea’s ETNews, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 800 processor at launch as the company is still facing heat-related issues with the in-house Exynos 5 Octa processor.

The report claimed that the first four million units of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would feature the Qualcomm processor, while only 20 percent to 30 percent of all future units of the handset would sport the homegrown Exynos 5420 Octa CPU.

According to a recent report, which also talked about two versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the version offering 3G connectivity will be powered by the Exynos 5420 octa-core processor, while the model featuring 4G LTE connectivity will have the Snapdragon 800 under the hood.

Based on the current tidbit, SamMobile reported that only consumers residing in the U.S. and Europe will get their hands on the Galaxy Note 3 first as these are the only markets that will get a Snapdragon 800 variant of the device.

According to other rumors, the 4G LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with a Snapdragon 800 CPU will carry a model number “SM-N9005.” The device’s processor is expected to clock at 2.3GHz. On the other hand, the 3G version of the Galaxy Note 3 may carry a model number “SM-N900” and will have a ARM Mali-T628 MP6 GPU, unlike the 4G variant, which has an Adreno 330 GPU.

Both versions of the Galaxy Note 3 are rumored to have a 5.7-inch AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera and the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box.
