While Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s (KRX:005935) Galaxy S5 is yet to be released to the public, the next-generation version of the company’s Note series handsets, dubbed the Galaxy Note 4, has already started gathering momentum in the rumor mill, with the latest buzz suggesting that the device’s display could be sharper than that of the S5.

According to a report from CNMO.com, a Chinese blog, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 4 could be the company’s first smartphone to feature a "2K" display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels, compared to the Galaxy S5’s 1920x1080 screen. The blog also said that the Note 4 could sport an Ultra HD 4K resolution display but implementation of such a resolution seems unlikely for now.

The Galaxy Note 4 is also said to be water- and dust-proof, just like the Galaxy S5, and could be powered by a Samsung-made Exynos processor with 6-cores or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU, with 4GB of RAM.

As for the camera, the Galaxy Note 4 is rumored to sport a 20.7-megapixel rear camera with 4K video-recording capability. The camera is also expected to feature optical image stabilization, or OIS, technology. The CNMO report also stated that the Galaxy Note 4 could pack an improved battery with its capacity ranging between 3600mAh and 3800mAh.

The device could run on Android 4.5 and feature 128GB of internal memory. Other expected Galaxy Note 4 features include 4G network support, dual-band Wi-Fi capabilities and handwriting-recognition technology to unlock the device.

According to Slash Gear, the release timeline of the Galaxy Note 4 is currently in doubt because of the earlier-than-expected release of the Galaxy S5. Although the Note 4 is likely to be unveiled at this year’s IFA Berlin in September, it will not be a surprise if Samsung opts for a separate event before that.
