With the latest Galaxy Note 7, Samsung managed to introduce many new features to its flagship phablet series, allowing the South Korean tech giant to confidently state that the new handset, with its offerings, will “set a new standard for large-screen devices.”

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is a phone of many firsts that include a dual-edge display, an iris scanner, a USB Type-C port, Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection and a completely water-resistant body. But that’s not all about the new features that Samsung has incorporated into the Galaxy Note 7. Here are four things that most consumers probably didn’t know about Samsung’s brand new handset.

HDR Video Streaming Capabilities

The curved 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen on the Galaxy Note 7 can stream HDR video, which Samsung said would enable “a cinema-like experience including brighter colors and a deeper black.” To make this possible, Samsung has partnered with Amazon, whose Amazon Prime video streaming service has a growing library of HDR content, SamMobile reported, adding that the retail giant’s HDR videos can be streamed on-demand by Prime subscribers on the Galaxy Note 7.

Iris Scanner Support For Third-Party Apps

Samsung has made the Galaxy Note 7 more secure than its predecessor by adding highly advanced biometric authentication features, including the fingerprint scanner and the new iris scanning technology. The company said the iris recognition technology can be used to authenticate secure purchases people make with Samsung Pay while the Galaxy Note 7 will also support Samsung Pass, eventually bringing biometric authentication to more apps and services.

Samsung is also reportedly working on major financial institutions to enable safer mobile banking with the help of the Galaxy Note 7’s iris scanner. The company is also said to have confirmed that it will release a special Application Programming Interface (API) for developers within its Samsung Pass program, allowing them to use the iris scanner for their applications.

Game Pack Features 4 Vulkan APIs

The Galaxy Note 7 comes with Game Pack — available through Google Play — which includes top game titles and various other new user benefits. In addition, the Game Pack also features four Vulkan API-ready games, including “Need for Speed No Limits,” “Hit,” “Vainglory” and “Olympus Rising” where users are expected to notice significant performance enhancements like improved graphics quality and stability of frame rates.

The Game Pack will be offered to all buyers of the Galaxy Note 7 from Aug. 20 to January 2017. The pack features over a dozen popular game titles, including “Nonstop Knight,” “Empire: Four Kingdoms,” “Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft” and “MARVEL Contest of Champions” to name a few.

Robocall, Spam Protection

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes with a new functionality called “Hiya,” which will protect the phone from robocalls and spam texts. The service, which uses a data set comprising of 600 million active mobile and landline numbers within the U.S. and a total of 1.5 billion around the world, also includes a spam button for users to report phone numbers they think are spam.

All these new features and improvements, coupled with an enhanced S Pen, are the ones that Samsung is betting on to make the Galaxy Note 7 “the best yet.” Have a look at the infographic below to know how it’s better than the Galaxy Note 5.
