Samsung Electronics continues to hold its silence over the highly anticipated smartphone of the year -- Samsung Galaxy S3. However, the media world is repeatedly abuzz with the next generation gadget's rumored specs, features and unofficial pictures every other day.

In the latest report, Dutch mobile blog GSM Helpdesk in the Netherlands has published a new image of Samsung Galaxy S3 which it claims to be an official press photo of the device, which they have obtained from an unnamed source.

Along with a professed official press image of the expected smartphone, the reports have also added updates on most of the hardware specifications.

Display: The Galaxy S3 version is expected to have a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus HD screen, with 1280 x 720 pixels of resolutions with a pixel density of 313 PPI. This is a definite improvement over the PenTile screen on Samsung's Galaxy Nexus handset.

Processor: The new phone is expected to be powered by Samsung's 1.5 GHz Exynos quad-core chip. According to GSM Helpdesk, S3 will definitely come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update and the device looks to have Samsung's latest version of TouchWiz software atop the user interface, similar to the Android 4.0 upgrades being pushed to the Galaxy S II.

  • The camera upgrade is expected to be a big one with 12-megapixels with a 1080p video at 60 frames per second and video chatting with a front-facing 2 megapixel camera.
  • It would also come backed with 4G LTE connectivity.
  • It would feature a 1 GB of internal memory and with an expandable memory option up to 32 GB.
  • It would measure 131 x 64 x 8 mm and weigh around 125grams.

 Launch Date

It has been rumored that the device will be launched May 22. According to GSM Helpdesk, the date is correct. However, there is a chance that Samsung is likely to hold its own launch event, similar to how Apple debuts new hardware.

Meanwhile, a leaked image of the smartphone points to a London launch for the handset May 22. 

The predecessor of Samsung Galaxy S3 -- the Galaxy S2 -- was announced at the MWC 2011 and then its official launch took place in April, which broached the rumors that the S3 would be unveiled at the same time. However, according to a media report, Samsung confirmed that Galaxy fans would not witness the S3's March release. Instead, they informed that the smartphone is likely to be released in the middle of the year 2012.

Last year, the Galaxy S2 fetched the honor of the Best Phone beating the other wireless gadgets of 2011 in the same category, with several power packed features. Consequently, the success of the smartphone could be a bestowing element to the Samsung Galaxy S3 hype.
