Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime Release Date Coming: Report Says Device With QHD Display Could Arrive In June

Samsung is rumored to be working on a new handset codenamed Project KQ, which is rumored to be the premium version of the Galaxy S5. Reuters

Samsung Electronics Co. (KRX:005935) has been rumored to be planning to introduce a premium model of the Galaxy S5, dubbed the Galaxy S5 Prime, for quite some time now, and a new report said Sunday that the company could release the new handset sometime in June.

According to a report from Asia Today, the South Korean company could release the “Prime” variant of the Galaxy S5, which is expected to feature a QHD display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, “around June.” While Samsung has not revealed anything about the new handset with the “S5” moniker, some reports are expecting the company to announce the device in early June and to release it later that month.

The Asia Today report also said that the Galaxy S5 Prime, which is expected to take on the LG G3 that is also likely to sport a 2560×1440 QHD screen, will focus on European and American markets. According to reports, LG G3 could hit markets in early July. 

While Samsung has reportedly denied the existence of the Galaxy S5 Prime, a Samsung-branded handset with model number SM-906S recently appeared in an AnTuTu benchmark featuring a QHD display, PhoneArena reported.

Meanwhile, a report from SamMobile said that Samsung has been working on a new handset code-named Project KQ, which is rumored to be the premium version of the Galaxy S5, called the S5 Prime, which could feature a metallic build.

According to rumors, the Galaxy S5 Prime is expected to be powered by a new octa-core Exynos 5430 processor that sports an integrated Intel LTE modem. The device’s CPU is rumored to be clocking at up to 2.1 GHz on the powerful Cortex-A15 cores and 1.5GHz on the low-power Cortex-A7 cores, and the Mali T6XXX GPU rated at 600MHz.
