Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 1 invitation Samsung Tomorrow

The Samsung Galaxy S5 could be official as soon as Feb. 24 as Samsung has announced an Unpacked event, which will take place during the first day of the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona.

Samsung shared news of the event, Unpacked 5, on its blog on Monday with several clues as to what could be showcased at the event. Rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S5 have been rampant as of late, and several sources have suggested that the Korean manufacturer has plans to unveil its fifth-generation flagship at WMC.

Here's what we can take away from Samsung's Unpacked invitation that may serve as clues that the Samsung Galaxy S5 may be unveiled.

First, the ominous ‘5’ in the event title could be a dead give away that the Samsung Galaxy S5 may be unveiled at this Unpacked event. Unpacked events are traditionally designated for flagship unveilings, while other showcase events like Samsung Premiere have unveiled devices secondary to a flagship line, and other Samsung devices are often announced online. Additionally, Samsung is known for particularly blatant advertising of its flagship unveilings. Many will remember during the 2013 pre-release of the Samsung Galaxy S4, the tag line for its unveiling event was “be ready 4.” During advertising for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the tag line was “Note the date.”

Second, in its announcement, Samsung refers to the unveiling dates of its 2013 flagships, the Galaxy S4 in March and the Galaxy Note 3 in September.

Third, Samsung references its "The Next Big Thing." In the invitation, the secondary tag line, which has been used for the unveilings of previous flagships, including the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, is again used to describe whatever will be showcased at the event.

Fourth, the full title of the event is Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 1, which many may remember from the 2013 unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S4. The public wondered what would follow the Unpacked Episode 1 that introduced the Galaxy S4; it turned out to be an Unpacked Episode 2 event, which introduced the Galaxy Note 3.

As said, it has been long rumored that the Samsung Galaxy S5 may be unveiled at WMC. Most notably, a Samsung executive mentioned recently the manufacturer’s plans to go “back to the basics” with the Galaxy S5. While there is no indication as to what this hint could mean, many wonder if there could be a link to previous Samsung Galaxy flagship unveilings. Notably, the Samsung Galaxy S2 was unveiled at the World Mobile Congress in February of 2011. Still, most information about the Galaxy S5 remains unconfirmed without word from Samsung.

The Unpacked 5 event will be live streamed on Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. CET (2 p.m. EST), as well as live blogged.
