Samsung is rumored to be working on “Galaxy S7 Mini” to counter the much-anticipated Apple iPhone 5se with a 4-inch display.
Looking back at the history, Samsung did not release a mini variant of the Galaxy S6 in 2015. The last compact device from Samsung was the Galaxy S5 Mini from 2014.
Samsung had not just cut the size of the S5 Mini but also the under-the-hood configurations. Sony, on the other hand, has always made its mini device share the same high-end specifications as the flagship with the Xperia Z series.
However, the new report says this quotient is about to change with the entry of Samsung Galaxy S7 Mini. Going by the report from Taiwan, Samsung will launch the compact S7 version as a response to the 4-inch iPhone 5se, which is expected to be announced on March 21/22. As it turns out, the Galaxy S7 Mini will be Samsung’s first compact device to flaunt high-end configurations.
As far as the rumored Galaxy S7 Mini specifications go, this device will reportedly come with a pocket-friendly 4.6-inch display, aided by 720p screen resolution. Under the hood, either Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset or Samsung’s own Exynos 8890 chip will power the handset.
Not to forget, the flagship S7 and the edge-display clad variant also come powered by the same processors mentioned above. However, the processor selection depends on the region of release. For instance, the U.S. Galaxy S7 customers will get the Qualcomm-powered smartphone.
This powerful processor unit will apparently be backed by a killer 3 GB of RAM in the mini handset, while the flagship comes with 4 GB of RAM configuration. Camera-wise, a 12-megapixel rear-facing sensor will be mounted on the handset.
Speaking of size, the Galaxy S7 Mini will apparently be 9.9 mm thick. However, there is no word on the weight of the device. The same site also talks about a certain periscope lens with 3x optical zoom, which is believed to be a separate accessory specific to the handset, GSM Arena reported.
In any case, readers are advised to take the reported Galaxy S7 Mini specifications with the proverbial pinch of salt as Samsung has not confirmed any information so far.
