Everyone’s wondering when is the Samsung Galaxy S9’s release date with early speculations pointing to a January announcement. Now a new report is claiming that the upcoming Android flagship smartphone will launch during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.

This new rumored release date for the Galaxy S9 comes straight from the South Korean site The Bell. The site claims that Samsung will officially reveal the phone on Feb. 27, the day after MWC 2018 kicks off. MWC 2018 takes place from Feb. 26 through March 1 and the annual event has always been a place where some major companies unveil their latest and greatest tech products.

Samsung has debuted several of its flagship smartphones during the event in the past so this potential launch date is very likely to be true. However, last year, Samsung did officially reveal the Galaxy S8 and S8+ during its own event in New York just days after MWC 2017. This is also why some might seem skeptical that the Galaxy S9 would debut during MWC 2018.

As for the actual release date of the Galaxy S9, it’s very likely that it could go on sale sometime in mid-March, according to SamMobile. The Galaxy S8 was released in mid-April and Samsung wants to allegedly release the S9 a month earlier than its predecessor. This might be part of the company’s strategy to offer a new flagship smartphone a bit earlier than expected to sway users away from considering buying the Apple iPhone X.

The Bell’s report also noted that Samsung did initially consider launching the Galaxy S9 well before MWC 2018. However, Samsung decided not to since the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have been doing well so far against the iPhone X in terms of sales.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything yet about the launch of the Galaxy S9. The last time that the company addressed it, Samsung said that “it is unlikely” that the phone will launch during CES 2018 in January. The South Korean giant hasn’t commented on the potential MWC 2018 launch date of the Galaxy S9.

Samsung might be keeping mum on launch and release dates, but leaks about the upcoming Android smartphone have been popping up left and right. The most recent one was from yesterday when Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) and 91Mobiles shared 360-degree CAD renders for the Galaxy S9+ andrevealed some key details about the upcoming Samsung phone.

The renders for the Galaxy S9+ revealed that the upcoming handset will still have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Unlike the ones found on the S8 and S8+ however, the fingerprint scanner on the S9+ sits directly below the camera module. Speaking of the camera, the handset comes with a set of vertically aligned dual cameras.
