Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (KRX:005935) will soon release a new tablet, called the Galaxy Tab S, which could be the world’s first device to feature a Wide Quad Extended Graphics Array, or WQXGA, AMOLED display, according to a new report published on Monday.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab S is expected to come in two display sizes -- an 8.4-inch model and a 10.5-inch model -- and its WQXGA AMOLED display is likely to sport a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. The AMOLED display technology is known for its low power consumption and high contrast levels, SamMobile reported.

In addition to the WQXGA AMOLED display, the Galaxy Tab S is expected to sport the South Korean tech giant’s first fingerprint sensor on a tablet. As with the Galaxy S5, the new tablet’s fingerprint sensor will be embedded in the device’s home button.

The Galaxy Tab S’ fingerprint sensor will have all the features found in the Galaxy S5, including fingerprint unlock and the ability to use the sensor to make PayPal payments and to log in to private folders and Samsung apps. The device is also rumored to have a new feature called multi-user login, which will allow users to log in to their accounts by swiping a finger on the home button from the lock screen.

According to the report, the Galaxy Tab S is likely to be powered by an Octa-core Exynos 5 (5420) processor -- four 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores -- with ARM’s big.LITTLE technology and 6-core ARM Mali-T628 GPU, which has a clock speed of 533MHz.

The device is expected to have 3GB of 32-bit dual-channel 933 MHz LPDDR3e RAM, an 8 megapixel (3264×2448) camera with 1080p Full HD video recording and a 2.1-Megapixel (1920×1080) front-facing camera.

The connectivity features of the Galaxy Tab S include Wi-Fi 802.11ac support plus the usual a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0 LE / ANT+, GPS, GLONASS and an IR blaster, SamMobile reported.

When it comes to software, the new tablet is likely to feature Android 4.4.2 KitKat. However, it's unclear if the device will run Samsung’s new Tab/NotePro Magazine UX or Samsung’s standard KitKat tablet UX.
