The millions of washing machines that Samsung recalled late last year are not being repaired in a timely fashion, some affected customers have said. About 2.8 million washing machines were flagged in November for potential safety issues, ranging from shoulder injuries to broken bones.

Some machines have lost balance while others have "exploded," some consumers have said.

Samsung offered consumers the choice of receiving a full refund, a rebate or a free in-home repair. However, some of those who chose to get their machines repaired have been greeted by silence from Samsung, NBC's Today reported Thursday.

"I've called numerous times, but I never get any calls back," one Samsung washing machine owner who was granted anonymity told Today.

"I'm afraid to do laundry because it could hurt my kids," said Britney Quimby, who has three children.

The washing machines are "ticking time bombs in people's homes," said Lori Andrus, a lawyer who has said there should be a class action lawsuit. "It might not have gone off yet; it might go off on the very next load."

In at least one instance, Samsung sent a cable TV technician to fix a defective washing machine, Fox 13 in Tampa reported last month.

The recall has not slowed down Samsung's washing machine ambitions. The tech giant just unveiled its latest related invention — two washing machines in one. The FlexWash and FlexDry, which debuted at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas last week, can accommodate two separate loads of laundry at the same time.

Samsung responded to Today's report by issuing a statement announcing it was still in the process of fixing defective washing machines.

"Since we announced this recall, we have leveraged multiple channels to directly contact more than 2 million consumers, and have already repaired hundreds of thousands of top load washing machines," the statement said in part. "Our nationwide network of service providers are trained to perform the repair, and allows us to reach consumers as quickly as possible after a repair is schedule. On average, a consumer who opts for an in-home service is serviced within 7 business days, and we have seen high rates of consumer satisfaction following the repair."
