People.com is reporting that actress Sandra Bullock donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help with the earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan.

The American Red Cross made the announcement Thursday on CNN.

While the charity said it has received a number of anonymous donations, this is the largest celebrity donation since the disaster occurred.

This is not the first time the Academy Award winning actress has donated to disaster relief efforts. Last year she donated $1 million to Haiti relief efforts after a catastrophic earthquake shocked the country. She is also very active in rebuilding in New Orleans.

Other celebrities have used social media tools, such as Twitter to raise money for Japan relief efforts.

Lady Gaga raised more than $250,000 by designing a bracelet. All the proceeds went to the American Red Cross.

Singer Katy Perry is also donating money from the merchandise table from her ongoing tour to the American Red Cross.

Even Charlie Sheen is donating money from ticket sales of his tour to the American Red Cross.
