LifeProof iPhone cases Screencap/LifeProof

Those hoping to protect their iPhones during summer time water excursions need look no further than the LifeProof Nuud case, which was recently named the best waterproof iPhone case by The Wire Cutter.

The LifeProof Nuud case is considered one of the thinnest and lightest, all-protective cases for the iPhone 5s. It fully protects iPhone handsets on four levels, from water, dirt, snow and shock. In particular, it is waterproof with a military standard Ingress Protection rating of IP68, which means it can be submerged in up to 6.6 feet of water. The Lifeproof Nuud case sells for $90 on the manufacturer’s website as well as on Amazon.

Another popular waterproof iPhone case is the Preserver series from OtterBox, which has the same waterproof capabilities and price as the Nuud case.

But waterproof cases are not the only way to protect your phone from water. In mid-May, the Liquipel water safe treatment for electronic devices was endorsed by music producer Steve Aoki in a commercial that made fun of the fact that the product seems too good to be true.

The Liquipel waterproofing treatment was introduced at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show. It uses a vacuum to inject waterproof particles into a device to protect its circuits from water damage. The Liquipel treatment is available for smartphones like the iPhone, as well as tablets, mp3 players and headphones. Customers can mail their devices to Liquipel for treatment, and they'll be treated and sent back the same day.
