The finale date for “Scandal” Season 6 may have just been indirectly announced.

TV Line writer Michael Ausiello was asked when the final episode of the Kerry Washington-ttarrer will be released. While he did not directly state May 18, he said, “ABC hasn’t yet announced anything, but one may get a hint by looking at the eighth and 18th word of this sentence.” According to ABC, “Scandal” will only have a total of 16 episodes for Season 6.

Ahead of the finale, series creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly that there will be a satisfying conclusion to the series in Season 6, episode 16. “The end of the season really hurdles toward a really great conclusion. We’re getting to the point where we finish out this big storyline that we’ve been unfolding. Up until then, I think we’ve been telling a lot of very individualized episodes. Then, with the Huck storyline, you saw it come together with group episodes,” she said.

Rhimes added that after last week’s 100th episode, the upcoming installments will focus on the entire group and not the individual characters. Additionally, Rhimes is still thinking about the much-awaited reveal of the next president of the United States. “We are breaking and writing the finale right now, and there’s a large debate in the room about whether or not we’re going to get a new president. I think we are,” she said.

Meanwhile, “Scandal” Season 6 is just on its 11th episode this week. “Trojan Horse” will see Olivia Pope (Washington) and her dad, Rowan Pope (Joe Morton), disagreeing on who should be the next president of the United States. Olivia has shifted sides from Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) to Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry), but Rowan insists that Cyrus cannot be the next leader of the country.

“Scandal” Season 6, episode 11 will air on ABC on April 20 at 9 p.m. EST.
