“Scandal” Season 6, Episode 1 will name the new president of the United States in “Survival of the Fittest.”

Here are three storylines that may shock fans of the hit ABC TV series.

Francisco Vargas wins

Governor Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) may have been introduced in “Scandal” towards the latter end of Season 5, but he sure made an impact on fans. Not only was he influential among the democrats, he also made headlines when he was able to calm down a man that was ready to shoot him. All of these things and more can definitely make him the next president of the United States.

Mellie Grant ends up with Marcus Walker

If Governor Vargas wins, Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) loses. But President Fitzgerald Grant’s (Tony Goldwyn) estranged wife may still have plenty of exciting storylines in Season 6. Remember the time when she worked closely with Marcus Walker (Cornelius Smith Jr.) and their chemistry was to the roof? In one of the scenes from the finale episode of Season 5, Marcus and Mellie almost kissed each other as well.

Olivia Pope reunites with President Fitz

The core relationship on “Scandal” is the one between Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and President Fitz. Despite getting into a relationship and breaking up thereafter, Olivia and Fitz cannot deny that they still love each other deeply. In Season 5, Olivia was pregnant with Fitz’s baby, but she decided to get an abortion. Fitz found out about it, but he decided to keep things to himself.

In Season 6, it’s possible that Fitz will confront Olivia regarding her abortion. Now that he is no longer the president, he will also have more time to try and win her back.

“Scandal” Season 6, Episode 1 will air on ABC on Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. EST.
