President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn), Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) and Rowan Pope (Joe Morton) have finally done something huge in “Scandal” Season 6, episode 13.

In “The Box,” the three came together to concoct a plan against Peus (David Warshofsky). But before this happened, Fitz and Rowan first got into a fight when the latter refused to help the former stop the bombing of select states via calculated drone strikes. At the beginning of the episode, Peus made it clear that he wants Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Samantha (Zoe Perry) back, but Fitz doesn’t want to make Mellie a pawn for the antagonist. Samantha is also in a secret room in the White House where she is being held hostage by Jake. Samantha knows a lot of information about the mysterious organization, so Jake, Fitz and Olivia (Kerry Washington) refused to let her go.

Midway through episode 13, Peus called Olivia and told her that he’s the one targeting various states. There were nine bombs ready to be detonated, and some of them have already killed innocent Americans. Peus reminded Olivia that the only way to stop the war is if he gains custody of Mellie and Samantha. This call urged Olivia to reach out to her dad once again, but Rowan was uncooperative.

Luckily, Fitz manned up and had a conversation with Rowan over some drinks. During this moment, Rowan acknowledged the fact that his daughter, Olivia, loves Fitz very much. The feeling is mutual, and the two of them just got back together in the previous episode. Towards the end of the episode, Rowan told Fitz that he will help him so that his last two weeks in the White House will be free from any problems.

Without Olivia’s knowledge, Rowan told Fitz and Jake that he will try to get Samantha’s trust by making it seem as though he will be escaping the White House. When he and Samantha are finally free and back in their home base, Rowan knows that he would have to reunite with Peus. He planned on tricking Peus into thinking that he’s working for him. But the reality is, the minute Peus goes out of the room, Jake will be waiting for him and shooting him.

Rowan’s plan materialized exactly how he, Fitz and Jake planned it out. The former was even able to kill Samantha. Back at the White House, Mellie, Olivia and the other members of Fitz’s office found out that the drones already stopped targeting innocent civilians. Fitz entered the room and looked at Olivia as though to say that Rowan finally agreed to help them.

Unfortunately, the problems that were resolved on Thursday night’s episode are just the beginning of an even bigger threat. The final episodes of “Scandal” Season 6 will see Fitz stressing over new issues, and Mellie struggling with her new position as the president of the United States.

“Scandal” Season 6 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
