The 13 year-old son of former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is out of the hospital after a serious beach accident.

Schwarzenegger's estranged wife Maria Shriver said in a Twitter message on Tuesday that their son Christopher left the hospital on Monday.

"Blessed to be able to take Christopher out of the hospital last night," Shriver wrote in a Twitter post. "What a feeling of relief to know that he's going to be fine."

Christopher, the youngest of the couple's four children, was hospitalized for more than a week after a surfing accident. The family shared few details about the accident, but said last week it had been a "very scary week".

Celebrity news site TMZ reported that Christopher suffered several broken bones and a collapsed lung while boogie boarding in Malibu and spent time in intensive care.

Shriver, a member of the Kennedy clan, filed for divorce from the action film star on July 1 following his admission that he fathered a child with his family's housekeeper years ago. The couple had separated in May.
