The gang returns for a third season of “Scream” on MTV. MTV

“Scream” has been renewed for a third season by MTV! However, there is a big catch that goes along with it — it only has a six episode order.

Season 2 of the MTV series had a 14 episode order (including the 2-hour Halloween episode), which was a jump from the 10 episode order in Season 1. But with ratings dropping in Season 2, it doesn’t appear as if the network is willing to take the risk. On top of that, they are also changing showrunners again. Jill Blotevogel and Jaime Paglia were the original showrunners in Season 1, but departed due to creative differences. Michael Gans and Richard Register took over as showrunners in Season 2. It’s not clear why they are not returning for the third season.

“Scream” concluded in August by revealing the identity of Piper’s (Amelia Rose Blaire) accomplice. Kieran (Amadeus Serafini) was arrested as the person behind the Brandon James killings, but the finale delivered one last twist. Kieran received a phone call in jail from what sounded like the REAL Brandon James.

Fans are hoping more answers about Brandon James will be revealed in the 2-hour Halloween special, which will air on MTV on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. ET.
