Following all of the information that was given to us in episode 3 of ABC’s “Secrets and Lies,” episode 4 of the series tied the pieces together.

The Season 2 installment “The Detective,” starts exactly where the last episode ended, at the home of a woman who has a gun to her head. After asking Eric (Michael Ealy) if he’s going to stay or go, Eric answers the mysterious blonde man and enters the house. There, Eric finds the man interrogating the woman and asks her about Liam (Graham Phillips).

Wary of the man’s interrogation methods, Eric watches on as the man demands that the woman call Liam to meet up with her. After threatening to hurt her, the woman finally gives in and tells Liam to meet with her at a diner.

After 45 minutes at the diner, Liam never shows, forcing the man to grab the woman by her arm and drag her outside. As Eric watches this unfold, he fears for the woman’s safety and shoves the man, allowing the woman to run away. The man reveals that the woman was his lead at getting closer to finding the man who may know where his missing daughter Rachel is.

Sorry for his mistake, Eric reveals he has another way to find Liam but won’t tell the man until he reveals how he knows his wife, Kate Warner (Jordanna Brewster). The man reveals that he met Kate at a maternity store and revealed to her that she was in the last known photo of his daughter Rachel. In a flashback, Kate admits that she doesn’t know who Rachel is but if she sees her or her friend Carly, she would get in contact with the man.

With the answer he needed, Eric reveals that Liam was hired by Kate and knows where he’ll be that night. Eric and the man head to a DJ Carnage concert to find Liam but unfortunately, Detective Cornell got there before they could and had Liam sent to jail. While in jail, Liam is grilled by Detective Cornell but knowing they have no case against him, only answers two questions.

Liam reveals that he had nothing to do with Kate’s murder and provides his alibi. But he did see someone that may have something to do with it. According to Liam, the night of a company party, Eric’s brother, Patrick (Charlie Barnett), was drunk and threatened Kate. While Liam doesn’t know if Patrick killed Kate, he did say that on any night, a drunk person could do anything.

This causes Detective Cornell to pay a visit to Patrick at his office. After asking him about Kate, Patrick reveals that he had nothing to do with Kate and she loved him more than some of the people in his own family. Patrick admits to threatening Kate but said it was just the drunk him talking.

Trying to figure out a way to get Liam back in their hands, the man tells Eric to post Liam’s bail, so they can get to him when he leaves jail. After posting the $10,000 bail, the man reveals his name to Eric, calling himself Danny (Kenny Johnson). The plan to get to Liam doesn’t go exactly as Danny wants but after Liam leaves jail early, Danny is still able to get a hold of Liam and ties him up in his trunk.

With a new plan setup, Danny is ready to get his answers from Liam and has a way to send him back to jail after he’s through with him. Danny demands to know if Liam knows his daughter, as he was also featured in the photo with her but Liam says he only saw her and didn’t speak to her. He says Rachel was there with her friend, who was there with Neil (Eric Winter).

After once again assuring that he had nothing to do with Kate’s murder, Eric asks him why Kate would even hire him knowing that he lied on his resume. Assuring Eric that he wasn’t Kate’s son, Liam reveals that Kate felt bad for Liam and knew what it was like to make mistakes in life and get a second chance. Liam promised Kate that he would change his old ways but eventually admitted to trying to steal money from Eric’s company.

Liam also revealed that Kate may have been in some type of trouble after receiving a bank notice. According to Liam, the notice was the only document she held onto in her office but after Eric said he didn’t see the notice in Kate’s office, he believes that someone may have broke in and taken it.

Upset that Liam would lie to Kate, Eric called the police and gave them Liam’s whereabouts so he could be taken back to jail. Facing a minimum of five years in prison, Eric felt no remorse for Liam.

With a new lead in their sight, Danny and Eric set up a way to meet with Neil. As Neil headed to Eric’s house, he was quickly subdued by Danny, who began to rough him up. Searching for answers about his daughter, Neil reveals that Rachel was only at the party as a friend of his guest, a call girl.

As Neil begins to reveal more and more information, Eric and Danny hear a knock at the door. Not expecting any guests, Danny opens the door to reveal Detective Cornell. “Detective,” Danny says to Cornell. “Detective,” she replies to Danny.
