Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) began running attack ads Thursday against former Representative Pat Toomey (R-PA), who has not even yet declared that he will run for the Senate in 2010.

According to Specter's campaign, a television ad will be launched across all of Pennsylvania over a year before the primary that targets Toomey for supporting deregulation and wanting to privatize Social Security.

Specter's support for President Barack Obama's stimulus package has hurt his support among Pennsylvania Republicans badly, and Specter has recently opted to vote against the Employee Free Choice Act in an attempt to raise his status among Republicans.

Toomey, who Specter beat by less than 2 percent the last time the two faced-off for Specter's Senate seat, has stated he is very, very likely to make another go at Specter's seat again during the next Republican primaries.
