Dominic Sherwood as Jace
Is Jace worth saving in "Shadowhunters?" Freeform

“Shadowhunters” Season 2 has finally returned, and it’s as exciting as ever.

Episode 1 picked up right where Season 1 left off. Jace (Dominic Sherwood) decided to go with Valentine (Alan van Sprang) so the villain would leave his friends and the rest of the New York Institute alone. However, Jace was then tortured by Valentine and his men in an effort to prove his loyalty. Aside from physical torture, it appeared as though Valentine also wanted to torture Jace emotionally.

Valentine revealed that he injected Jace with pure demon blood while he was still in Jocelyn’s (Maxim Roy) womb. This is still unverified, of course, because Jace’s identity is still unconfirmed despite Valentine’s claims. Valentine also said that Jocelyn abandoned Jace because of what he did to him.

Jace’s friends are naturally worried about his disappearance. Clary (Katherine McNamara) took it upon herself to tell the clave’s new head, Victor Aldertree (Nick Sagar), about what happened, but he took it the wrong way. Instead of asking for help to find Jace and get him back to the clave safely, Victor made it seem like Jace was dangerous and that he chose to be on Valentine’s side because he is also evil. Victor decided to ask the shadowhunters to hunt down Jace “dead or alive” and lock down the institute. Clary sought the help of her mother, but Jocelyn sided with Victor.

Scrambling to find Jace, Jocelyn, Clary and Simon (Alberto Rosende) went out and searched for him. Much to their surprise, they ended up exactly where Jace was. Jace, along with Valentine, had just killed a vampire when they were spotted by Jocelyn and Simon. Clary was trailing behind. As a reaction to what Jace did, Jocelyn decided to hit him with an arrow. She missed the shot, but it hit Valentine. Clary was mad that her mother tried to kill Jace, but she didn’t realize how odd it was that Jace helped Valentine get back to safety.
