Iron Man 3
Downey and Paltrow pose at the Iron Man 2 premiere Reuers

Shane Black director of Lethal Weapon is in talks with Marvel Studios to write and direct Iron Man 3.

According to various news reports, Shane is in contention for the job along with other big name directors. The writer/director has apparently impressed Marvel executives with his take on the third installment of the blockbuster franchise. The first two in the series were directed by Jon Feverau.

Black is known for making action comics and his filmography besides the Lethal Weapons franchise includes, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and The Last Boyscout.
Black may find favour also because the franchise’s lead star, Robert Downey Jr has a say in the pick of the director and Black and Downey previously teamed on the well-received Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which Black co-wrote and directed.

Jon Favreau’s departure from the Iron man franchise led to many questions. He departed to helm Magic Kingdom for Disney. It is believed that he fell off with his erstwhile friend Downey and there were creative differences and money issues, but no one is still clear about the real reasons. Disney plans to release Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013.
