World Financial Center confirmed as highest viewing deck

The observatory on top of Shanghai's World Financial Center has been crowned the world's highest observation deck.

The 100th floor deck, which is 477.96m (1,568 feet) above the Shanghai streets, has now been recognised as the highest by the Guinness Book of Records.

It was a double celebration for the observatory - the record was confirmed on its first birthday.

The World Financial Center was planned as the world's tallest building, but that accolade was taken by Taipei 101 in Taiwan.

The observatory boasts a 50m-wide (164 feet) glass floor, through which visitors can peer at the streets nearly half a kilometre below.

The Park Hyatt Hotel, which occupies floors 79 to 93 of the same building, has been confirmed as the world's highest hotel.

Earlier this week, Shanghai announced that it would be removing 'Chinglish' from its street signs.
