“Sharknado” fans were devastated over the weekend when reports began to circulate that star Tara Reid would not be returning for the Syfy sequel. Fortunately the actress took to her Twitter to clear up the rumors regarding her reprisal of April Wexler.

“There is no script for Sharknado 2 until I read it then I will make a decision but everyone that is saying I got cut that is not true #liars,” Reid posted on Sunday, July 28.

Reid’s tweet comes after TMZ reported that producers only wanted “90210” star Ian Ziering back for the New York City-based sequel. A source close to production told the site that both Ziering and Reid received around $50,000 for their roles in the first film. And while “Sharknado 2” might not be in Reid’s future, Ziering could “rake in a lot more for the sequel.”

The actress isn’t the only one taking to Twitter in an attempt to clear the rumors surrounding her name. Asylum, the studio behind “Sharknado,” also took to the social media site to call off the feeding frenzy:

“For the record, @TaraReid is awesome and was great to work with in #SHARKNADO. We’d be lucky to have her back for the sequel. That is all!”

The reports of Tara Reid being cut come a couple days after she spoke with Radio Times about her hit straight-to-TV movie. While she initially told the site that she’s not sure there really is a sequel, she did dish on what she’s heard so far about the plot.

“There’s talk that the whole family gets together again and we go to Aspen and there’s, like, global warming as we’re skiing, all of a sudden it goes from -20 to 90 degrees,” explained Reid. “The glaciers came down and there’s, like, dinosaur sharks and they come alive again and they’re eating everyone. And because of all the water coming down the mountain they’re like, killing people in the street.”

Reid’s plot description differs slightly from the Syfy network’s statement in which they said that sharks will be invading New York City in the sequel.

“Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm -- on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel,” Thomas Vitale, Syfy’s executive vice president of programming and original movies, said in a statement. “What we can guarantee is that ‘Sharknado 2’ will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fun, I mean, fun next year.”

“Sharknado 2” is currently slated to be released in the summer of 2014.
