Sharp Corp. is suing its larger competitor, Samsung Electronics, alleging that the company's products infringe on its own liquid crystal display technologies.

Five different patents are included in the suit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Monday.

The patents cover a variety of technologies, including wiring insulation, and optical film to enhance a users viewing angle.

Sharp alleges that LCDs manufactured by Samsung for its televisions and mobile phones sold in the United States infringe upon these patents.

Sharp requests that the court prohibit further sales of the devices and asks for compensation on already sold units.
