A high school east of Cleveland was put under lockdown on Monday following a shooting that was believed to have injured several students, authorities said.
One person was in custody in connection with the incident, Joseph Bergant, superintendent of the Chardon, Ohio, schools said on local television, which was relayed by CNN. The shooting occurred at Chardon High School.
Chardon is about 35 miles east of Cleveland.
The alleged person who did the damage is in custody, Bergant said. The school campus is now safe.
Local media reported as many as three students may have been wounded and that medical helicopters were on the scene. Reuters could not immediately confirm those details.
Live television images of the school showed emergency vehicles at the school.
The superintendent told local media that the shooter was believed to be a student.
All of our high school students are now safe, Bergant said.
