It looks like Deputy Beck (Tristan Wilds) is finally turning on his superiors at the Sheriff’s department in next week’s Season 1, episode 9 of “Shots Fired.”

In the trailer for the episode, Beck meets up with Preston (Stephan James) to seemingly come clean with Jesse Carr’s (Jacob Leinbach) death and expose the corrupt inner workings of the Sheriff’s department.

“Why the change of heart?” Preston asks Beck in the preview clip.

“I’m done being blue,” replies Beck.

In this week’s Season 1, episode 8, Ashe (Sanaa Lathan) and Preston paid Beck a visit and asked him about the Tours. When Beck insisted that he doesn’t know anything about the Auxiliary Deputy program, Ashe told him that they have a video proving that he lied in his initial statement about Jesse’s death. “You lied Deputy Beck,” Ashe told him. “Jesse didn’t open his door. You pulled it open for him after he threw his I.D. on the ground.”

Preston told Beck that if he tells them what he knows about the Tours, the DOJ lawyer and his partner may help him out on Jesse’s case. Beck refused to take the deal, but after spending a day without his wife and his kids, it seemed that Beck had some sort of realization that ultimately changed his mind.

According to the synopsis for next week’s episode, Ashe and Preston make a shocking discovery about the Tours, and their investigation puts Lieutenant Breeland (Stephen Moyer) and Sheriff Platt (Will Patton) under intense scrutiny. The episode summary doesn’t specify where Ashe and Preston get the information. But because Beck has a change of heart in the episode, it’s likely that the crime-solving duo obtain the intel from Beck himself.

Also in the trailer for episode 9, Ashe visits Pastor Janae (Aisha Hinds) in jail. “Keep the faith,” Ashe tells Janae, who has been arrested for the murder of Joey Campell (Kelvin Harrison Jr.).

Last episode, Janae insisted that the gun found in her office, which was used to kill Joey, is not hers. When Ashe asked Janae why she thinks the gun was there, the pastor said that they had a break-in a few nights ago. “They stole a computer and some speakers. Maybe that’s when the gun was planted,” Janae said. Janae explained that she didn’t report the robbery to the police because doing so was reporting the incident to people who were behind it.

Because Ashe and Preston believe Cory’s (Marqus Clae) statement that Arlen Cox (Richard Dreyfuss) is the one who shot Joey to death, Ashe and Preston took the murder weapon from the Sheriff’s department to verify whether or not it truly belongs to Janae. With the help of Ashe’s former husband, Javier (Angel Bonanni), Ashe and Preston found out that the gun actually belongs to Arlen.

But when the partners brought in Arlen for questioning, the businessman said that his gun was stolen two months ago. And much to Ashe’s frustration, there’s a police report supporting Arlen’s claims that his gun was stolen. Does that mean Arlen isn’t J oey’s murderer? Only time will tell.

“Shots Fired” Season 1, episode 9, titled “Come to Jesus,” airs on Wednesday, May 17 at 8 p.m. on FOX.
