Former California first lady and TV journalist Maria Shriver filed for divorce on from her estranged husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger, on Friday, capping a shocking string of events since her husband revealed a love-child two months ago.

Shriver, 55, filed papers seeking to dissolve her 25-year marriage to Schwarzenegger, 63, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple separated earlier this year, after Schwarzenegger told Shriver he had fathered the child of a former household employee.

The stunning revelation came on May 17, a week after the couple announced they had separated.

Shriver and Schwarzenegger were married in 1986 and have four children together, including two sons who are still minors. Shriver's petition seeks joint custody of the teens, who are 17 and 13.

Shriver is seeking joint custody of the couple's two minor children, Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13.
