Silver company shares led mining stocks higher Monday with many of the major companies posting gains of between 5 percent and 7 percent.

Silver for September delivery on the CME Domex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 3.3 percent to $43.82 an ounce.

Pan American Silver Corp. popped 7.7 percent, Endeavor Sivler Corp. 7.5 percent surged and First Majestic Silver was up 7 percent.

Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp. climbed 5.3 percent, Silver Standard Resources Inc. jumped 7.1 percent, Hecla Mining Co. rose 5.8 percent and First Majestic Silver was up 6.6 percent.

Shares of iShares Silver Trust, an exchange-traded trust backed by physical silver, was up 2.1 percent, and Sprott Physical Silver Trust was higher by 2.4 percent.
