Ever since Simon Cowell’s girlfriend Lauren Silverman announced that she was pregnant with his child, a number of disparaging rumors have been making the rounds, with a section of the media calling her a gold-digger.

Now, the British media mogul has hit back in an interview with Ellen Degeneres that will be telecast on Tuesday, stating that Silverman did not trap him with pregnancy.

“I obviously can’t blame the media - it was kind of what I call a juicy story," he told Degeneres, according to Daily Mail. “But there was a lot of stuff that was said about her: that she trapped me and that she’s a gold-digger. It's absolute nonsense. She’s a great girl but, like I said, it was awkward because of the circumstances.”

Cowell, 53, added that despite the public scrutiny, he is looking forward to being a father. But, in an earlier interview with BBC Breakfast, he said he would stay as far away as possible from dirty diapers, and would prefer delegating that job to someone else.

“Oh my god, this is exciting and this is going to be a bit of a nightmare for the next few weeks - because everyone knows it was well documented,” Cowell told Degeneres. “It was kind of uncomfortable, you know, the situation.

“But these things happen and everything is kind of calm now and I’m happy. I’m actually happier than I’ve ever been.”

Silverman is the estranged wife of one of Cowell’s friends, Andrew Silverman, who told UK’s Daily Star that he could never forgive Cowell.

“I’m not in that place right now. I don’t know. I’m taking every day at a time, not weeks, not months. It’s been a difficult situation, but I think I’m doing the best that I can with the cards that I have been dealt,” Silverman said. The Silvermans reached a divorce settlement in August where Lauren received up to £2 million, or approximately $3 million, and joint custody of their son Adam, according to the Daily Star.
