The highly popular '90s arcade game The Simpsons may finally be getting an Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network port, but no official word has been said.

The tidbit comes to us via a classified post on an Australian job board, though it doesn't reveal much. It lists The Simpsons Arcade Game as a computer game for multiple platforms authored by Backbone Entertainment. The publisher is Konami, who originally developed the game.

Backbone Entertainment has developed a number of ports for XBLA and PSN including Marvel vs. Capcom 2, the X-Men arcade game and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game. So The Simpsons Arcade Game seems right up its alley.

The game is a beat-'em-up similar to other '90s arcade games of its ilk. It features the popular cartoon family battling across Springfield for some contrived reason. The game featured hilarious inside jokes for anyone who enjoyed the TV series. I could explain the game, or you could just check out an entire play through here:

Though there is no official announcement for the game, since companies started porting old arcade games to modern consoles, a Simpsons game seemed evitable. We'll be sure keep an eye on the game as it develops.
