Simpsorama
The Simpsons family will meet the Planet Express crew from "Futurama" in Sunday night's crossover episode on Fox. Fox

After its ratings-boosting visit from the Griffins, “The Simpsons” is gearing up for another crossover episode on Nov. 9. The Planet Express Crew from Matt Groening’s recently re-cancelled animated series, “Futurama,” will come to Springfield to save the future from the past. A new clip from the upcoming episode shows Homer confronting Bender for the first time.

In the exclusive clip from Entertainment Weekly, Bart is hanging upside down baiting something in the shadows with a sign on his chest that reads “Tasty Boy.” It turns out Bender has been lurking in the Simpsons’ basement, for reasons unknown. Homer attacks the “talking robot with a catchphrase” only to discover that they aren’t so different.

The plot synopsis for the crossover episode, titled “Simpsorama,” explains that “the Futurama Planet Express crew comes to present-day Springfield to prevent the Simpsons from destroying the future.” EW previously noted that the plot is Terminator-esque in that Bender comes back in time to kill Bart before he can pull a seemingly innocuous prank that ends up destroying the future.

“Futurama” aired its last episode on Comedy Central last year after being saved from cancellation on Fox. The entire cast is reuniting for the crossover episode for the first -- but hopefully not last -- time since the series’ phenomenal end.

“Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean made it clear to Digital Spy that the Planet Express crew’s appearance on “The Simpsons” won’t tarnish the “Futurama” ending.

“It was a really good ending, and this doesn’t purport to re-end it,” he said. “If you ask me, I’d say this crossover takes place three months before [the finale] occurred. I would never dream of trying to replace that ending.”

The episode’s tagline reads: “A show out of ideas teams up with a show out of episodes.”

Jean told Entertainment Weekly earlier this summer that a "Futurama" crossover has been on everyone’s mind for a while.

“They were going off the air, so I thought people would really love it if we had one more chance to see those characters,” Jean said. “We’re always looking for things that are compatible with us, and I thought, ‘Well, what’s more compatible?’ We do a joke, actually, about how similar Bender and Homer look. Like, they just erased Homer’s hair.”

"The Simpsons" and "Futurama" crossover, “Simpsorama,” will air on Fox on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 8 p.m. EST. In the meantime you can check out EW’s exclusive teaser clip.
