It is well known that the exclusive Siri feature - Apple's official voice recognition service is not only the most popular but also the most enviable feature of the iPhone 4S. Thereby, since is release, there has been an earnest endeavor to inculcate Siri for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. However, there is jailbreak news here which reveals of a possible attempt to expand Siri Dictation to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.
Simply Add the Cydia Source to Download the Hack
This jailbeak connoted Siri0us and available via Cydia is Nuance-based. However, the end result derived from the jailbreak is the same as Siri's dictation capabilities. All you need to do to get Siri Dictation running on your jailbroken iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 is simply 'Add'http://apt.if0rce.com to your list of Cydia sources and search for Siri0us.
Well, if you are still in doubt as to what 'Nuance' is; then let me tell you the technology used here, i.e. technology used is actually Nuance-based dictation, which works great on the iPhone 4, transcribing words into text rather quickly. And the end result is pretty much the same as Apple's Siri.
The developer, Eric Day has warned users a few things to be kept in mind:
- You might run into a bug when trying to install. So, if your iDevice keeps on respringing do not restore. Instead, use a SSH tool to remove the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AssistantServices.framework file.
- Again, it is important to keep in mind before installing Siri0us that the jailbreak is supported by ads and you'll need an Internet connection for Siri's microphone to show up.
Meanwhile, developers are still working to bring a Siri port to the iPhone 4, and have already come up with some pretty cool custom use cases, though the method violated Apple policies. But what the developer of Siri0us has done is that amazing tweak which allows you to use Siri dictation without the need of iPhone 4S system files. It just uses the voice engine which powers the flagship device from Apple.
It Does Work...
Many have tried Siri0us on their iPhone 4 and it seems to be working fluently, without any major hiccups. Needless to say, your accent may mess up with the dictation, which of course you can expect in the iPhone 4S as well. So, first try dictating small sentences and check if it works for you or not. Good Luck!
If you want to see Siri0us in action, you can check out the demo from iDownloadblog.com:
Is your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS already jailbroken? Well if yes, then this wouldn't be a bad thing to check out. But yes, do it under the developer's guidelines and at your own risk! Have any of you used Siri0us? Do let us know.
