SiriusXM’s iOS app now has support for Apple’s CarPlay in-car technology. This means subscribers may now listen to the satellite radio service using their in-car entertainment system that’s running on CarPlay.

On Thursday, SiriusXM rolled out a new version of its iOS app, and this one has support for CarPlay. This is good news to Apple CarPlay users, for they will now have access to SiriusXM and they can just dive into categories like “Music,” “Howard Stern” and “News & Issues,” as pointed out by Apple Insider.

Though SiriusXM’s app is free to download, users are required to have an eligible subscription to access its content. There’s a streaming-only plan for $15.99-per-month, and there’s also an All Access tier that costs $20.99-per-month to maintain. Of course, it goes without saying that a cellular connection is needed to access SiriusXM’s content.

“We now support Apple CarPlay! Connect your phone in your car and tune to channels, on demand episodes, favorites, and more right from your built-in display,” the release notes of SiriusXM version 4.2.0 reads. “Swipe to tune channels up and down.”

As per MacRumors, SiriusXM is a satellite radio service that provides users with access to radio online or in the car. It offers more than 150 streaming music channels, along with news content, sports coverage and talk radio. The app is natively supported by many in-car infotainment systems, so it’s just right that it now has CarPlay support.

It is important to note at this point that only BMWs have wireless CarPlay Support. Owners of other car models will need to have wired CarPlay receivers to run Apple’s in-car service, as pointed out by The Verge.

The news that SiriusXM has now gotten CarPlay support comes a day after a list of new vehicles debuting with CarPlay surfaced online. MacRumors has learned that the following 2018 and 2019 car models are compatible with Apple’s CarPlay system:

The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the 2019 Kia Sorento are also likely to have CarPlay support, but there’s no confirmation for these cars yet.

SiriusXM’s app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices running iOS 8.0 or later versions of Apple’s mobile operating system. The latest version of the app is clocking in at 112 MB, and it has support for English, French and Spanish languages.
