“Sister Wives”
How did “Sister Wives” stars Kody Brown and his wives Robyn, Christine, Meri and Janelle react to daughter Mariah Brown’s coming out during Season 8, episode 7? TLC

“Sister Wives” Kody and Meri Brown’s daughter Mariah kicked of 2017 in a big way. The 21-year-old came out to her mother, father and his sister wives during an episode of the TLC series.

During the episode Sunday, Mariah gathered her family to reveal to them that she’s been hiding a major secret. “I’m gay,” she proclaimed as “Sister Wives” came to a close. While fans will have to wait until next week to see the reaction from her parents, they needn’t look any further than her Twitter page to find out how fans are reacting to the news.

On Sunday, Mariah, who is currently vacationing in Ireland, thanked everyone for their support. She wrote that she had been brought to tears by the messages and was so grateful. Mariah retweeted just one of the many messages she was sent praising and celebrating her for being honest about her sexuality. The sender tweeted that she was inspired by Mariah’s decision, adding “#loveislove.”

Previews for the upcoming episode tease mixed reactions from her parents. The entire family was slightly in disbelief, but none more so than Kody and Meri. In one clip Meri comments on Kody having been “like smiling and happy” during the big reveal, while she was at a loss for words. It was then that Kody announced that he and Meri were not celebrating the sheer fact that their daughter is gay, but were happy that she was being true to herself.

“We’re not happy Mariah’s gay; we’re happy Mariah know herself,” he said (via Us Weekly).

While Mariah’s announcement during Season 8, episode 7 of “Sister Wives” was undoubtedly major for her entire family, no one from the family has addressed it on social media at this time. Instead, Kody, Meri, Christine and the other members of the family focused on the catfishing scandal that rocked their lives in 2015. The Brown family patriarch focused on setting the record straight, addressing assumptions that being polygamists is the reason they were unaware that Meri, 45, had been communicating with someone assuming a fake identity online. Meanwhile Meri kept things light, revealing the ways she, Kody and the other “Sister Wives” have moved on.

Tune in to “Sister Wives” Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on TLC.
